Quotes of the Day (1/16-1/23)

Sunday January 22, 2017:

“Success is not final, failure is not fatal, it is the courage to continue that counts.”- Winston Churchill

I have listened to a few self-help books recently & they’ve all echoed this claim that “failure is not fatal” & in fact, lends itself to future successful opportunities.

Saturday January 21, 2017:

“I’m not making an argument for the outcome of the election, but I make an argument for the democracy on which our freedoms depend, and we cannot have democracy if we cannot accept outcomes with which we disagree as well as outcomes with which we agree.” -Elder Oaks (of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints)

This profound statement should really be taken seriously in light of the nation’s reaction to Trump’s assumption of the presidential office yesterday. We do want to have a republic democracy in this nation, & as adults, we must learn to continue living life (& not stopping to waste energy on temper tantrums) even when/if we don’t “get our way.” This is the issue with living in an entitlement age.

Friday January 20, 2017: (Inauguration Day!)

“Without freedom of thought, freedom of choice, freedom of action within lawful bounds, man cannot progress. The Lord recognized this & also the fact it would take man thousands of years to make the earth habitable for self-governing individuals. Throughout the ages advanced souls have yearned for a society in which liberty & justice prevail. Men have fought for it, sought for it, have died for it.” -Ezra Taft Benson

A good reminder of the many freedoms we enjoy; not just because we live in America, but because the Lord loves us! He wishes for us to make progress & knows we cannot do so without basic choice & accountability. Here’s to self-government!

Thursday January 19, 2017:

“To a great experience one thing is essential, an experiencing nature. It is not enough to have opportunity; it is essential to feel it.” – Walter Bagehot

Life is a constant experience, really, so it’s good to keep that mindset. We should be feeling & experiencing something new each day of our lives.

Wednesday January 18, 2017:

“For a long time it had seemed to me that life was about to begin—real life. But there was always some obstacle in the way, something to be got through first, some unfinished business, time still to be served, a debt to be paid. Then life would begin. At last it dawned on me that these obstacles were my life.” – Alfred D’ Souza

When real life happens……there are definitely obstacles we will be expected to overcome along the journey.

Tuesday January 17.2017:

“Our limited perspective, our hopes & fears become our measure of life, & when circumstances don’t fit our ideas, they become our difficulties.” -Benjamin Franklin

And oh what a limited perspective we have in the daily grind of life! But difficulties can become blessings, especially when viewed with the proper perspective. I was reminded of this concept recently when an optimistic friend of mine was diagnosed with breast cancer. She & her husband are looking past the chemo treatments in hopes of their goal & dream to become parents (even though the chemo could potentially ruin her fertility. What perspective & faith!

Monday January 16, 2017:

“The more patient you are, the more accepting you will be of what is, rather than insisting that life be exactly as you would like it to be.” -Richard Carlson

Learning to be a mom to my newborn son is summed up perfectly in this quote; patience is a virtue that requires being grateful for & realizing what we do already have in life.
